I’m published!

A little over two years ago I made the decision to commit to improving my photography, part of that was taking online classes and the other was taking risks. I reached out to an old friend of mine who worked for the Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire and asked her if the Nature Conservancy had a need for photography. She said that she wasn’t sure but that she’d pass my name along to the woman in charge of marketing. A short while later I was contacted by that person and she said that indeed they had a need for a photographer, they were in the beginning stages of putting together a publication for the 50th Anniversary of the New Hampshire Nature Conservancy.

On different occasions and along with my Dad, husband and kids I spent a decent part of the summer of 2010 hiking and walking the trails of several Nature Conservancy preserves. At the time my Canon 7D camera was relatively new to me and I rented a 24-70mm lens (which I later purchased). I still had so much to learn about my camera and I was just coming out of Auto mode. By the end of the summer I must have accumulated over 1000 photos. I had a deadline for submitting the photos, I believe it was sometime in the fall, which was no easy task because I was also new to Photoshop. I did the best that I could do with the minimal editing skills that I had at the time. The book was to be published by the end of the summer 2011 but as is common in that industry the book didn’t actually get published until this summer. Last week I received my copy where I can find 4 of my photos, there are a couple on the website as well, here and here. Unfortunately, in the credits in the book my last name is spelled incorrectly.

This last photo is my Dad fly fishing on Garland Pond. They used this image on the cover of their Annual meeting brochure. They have been using other images of mine to promote special events.

In the coming days (weeks?) I will try to go through these photos and post a few, also, now that I’ve got editing skilz I should be able to make them look better too. If I only knew then what I know now…

I have another photo that will be published in an entirely different publication this fall (if all goes as planned) but it’s top secret so we’re all gonna have to wait.

  2. I loved your site so much I subscribed right away. Your vision is grand in small things, the understated greatness of the small gifts we often overlook. New Hampshire, scouts and the joy of family…all close to my heart. I think your camera is directly attached to your heart.

  3. Congratulations, Becky! Love that you put yourself out there (that’s soooo hard to do!) and that it ended so successfully. You have every right to be proud of yourself.
